Since 2016, the International Hellenic University/Διεθνές Πανεπιστήμιο της Ελ-λάδος has its own archaeological excavation, under the direction of Professor Manolis Manoledakis, Dean of the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Economics. The site that is being excavated every June at Neo Rysio, Thessaloni-ki, hosted a settlement that was in use roughly between 1000 and 550 BC.
The Cave of Petralona, situated approximately one kilometer from the village of Petralona in the region of Halkidiki, Macedonia, has been accessible to the public since 1979. It was here that the traces of human habitation dating back approximately 700,000 years were unearthed by Aris Poulianos, considered among the oldest known European ancestors.
The Mount Athos peninsula, officially known as “Agion Oros” since 1045, has been a bastion of Orthodox monasticism since 843, as attested by historical records. The structured communal life on Athos began in 963 with the establishment of the Great Lavra Monastery by the venerable Athanasios.
